July is a month where we celebrate freedom—freedom of expression, independence, and the right to chart our own course. For many, that includes one of life’s most intimate and profound choices: the freedom to build a family in a way that’s right for you.

As someone who has spent nearly 15 years helping people grow their families, I’ve come to believe that freedom in family-building is about more than access to care—it’s about emotional permission. Permission to pause. Permission to explore your options. Permission to do things differently from how you once imagined.

Maybe your journey includes egg donation, embryo adoption, or gestational surrogacy. Maybe you’re a single parent by choice, or part of a same-sex couple navigating IVF. Maybe you’re someone who has faced heartbreaking loss or still sits in the uncertainty of waiting. All of it is valid. And none of it means you’re any less deserving of joy, of hope, or of a happy ending.

There is freedom in letting go of timelines society places on us. There is power in saying, “I want a family, and I’m open to how that story unfolds.”

One of the most beautiful parts of my work is witnessing people reclaim that power. I’ve seen parents walk through years of infertility only to welcome a baby through surrogacy. I’ve watched egg donors help create families they may never meet but will always be a part of. I’ve supported women who once felt broken now standing tall, pregnant or not, knowing they are whole.

This July, as fireworks light up the sky and we honor the courage it takes to be free, let’s also honor the courage it takes to build a family on your terms. Because freedom isn’t just about independence—it’s about possibility.

No matter where you are in your journey, know this: You are not alone. Your path may look different, but it is deeply worthy. You have choices. You have support. And you have every right to dream of a future filled with love, laughter, and little feet running through your home.

That’s what freedom to family build really means.
